Eataly is a supermarket with many opportunities to taste and take home the highest quality Italian and local products at a fair price.
“From day one, Grocer Box has been a great partner in creating our online marketplace. Their platform has given us an added revenue channel and the process to bring it to market was seamless.”
Eataly was established in Turin, Italy in 2007, and now has 39 markets across 11 countries. Alongside authentic Italian products and groceries, the marketplace offers educational resources such as cooking classes and the chance to dine at several restaurants.
As an experiential marketplace, Eataly places great emphasis on educating its customers, immersing them in an in-store experience that is difficult to emulate online. Fulfilling online orders at high volume in a streamlined fashion — across the many sales channels available both online and offline — proved a daunting task.
The Grocer Box design team worked closely with Eataly to create an online experience (UI/UX) that emulated the in-store one. Grocer Box also let Eataly streamline picking and packing, manage and fulfill deliveries on both a national and local level, and let staff easily manage content changes on the front-end of the website.
A full-service butcher shop that specializes in quality meats, poultry, and foodstuffs sourced exclusively from Ontario family farms.
“Working with Grocer Box has allowed my company to grow easily, and in a short amount of time. The Grocer Box team actively supports my needs, and invests in understanding the unique factors, challenges, and opportunities of a food retail business.”
Established in 2009, Sanagan’s Meat Locker was born out of Peter Sanagan’s 25 years in the food industry and his passion for sourcing locally raised meat in the Ontario region. As a full-service butcher shop in Toronto, the store has earned praise and a number of awards — most notably as Toronto’s top butcher shop.
Sanagan’s sells meat that varies in weight by cut and animal, so it needed to sell online by the pound without losing money on cuts that come in overweight at the scale — order two pounds of chicken breast, weigh two and a half, and the extra half pound went uncharged. Operationally, it also needed efficient picking and packing, delivery within a local radius, and a way to power delivery beyond it.
Grocer Box built a checkout that captures a credit-card hold, letting the store charge for items that weigh over once scaled. It also developed a proprietary picking and packing app so multiple staff can pick, pack, and substitute in parallel. Finally, a tiered delivery system lets the store deliver within its own radius while tapping the Grocer Box delivery network beyond its local zone.
